Biography
Joseph Kilianski, MD, known as “Dr. K” to his patients, believes in the importance of a strong patient-physician relationship, which is why he takes the time to listen to his patients and fully understand their needs. Dr. Kilianski understands that when it comes to medical decisions, there are no “one-size-fits-all” answers.
Growing up, Dr. Kilianski says he “always had an interest in life sciences throughout school and medicine was a good match for my interests.” While in medical school, Dr. Kilianski initially thought he had no interest in going into obstetrics and gynecology. Recalling his mandatory OB/GYN classroom rotation, he says, “I absolutely hated it, did not like the instructor, and told myself that was one field I would never go into!” However, when he got to his third year of medical school and did his clinical rotation in OB/GYN, Dr. Kilianski’s thinking changed dramatically. “When actually dealing with patients and families, performing or assisting in surgeries, and finally delivering a baby, I was hooked.” As he completed the remainder of his rotations, Dr. Kilianski did not find another field of medicine “that brought me as much joy and was as fun as” OB/GYN, launching his successful career in the field.
Dr. Kilianski most enjoys delivering babies, helping infertile couples and surgery, and his training and experience reflects those priorities. He was one of the first physicians trained on the da Vinci robotic operating system, which facilitates complex surgeries with a minimally invasive approach. Dr. Kilianski performs many minimally invasive gynecologic procedures in his office setting, including endometrial ablations and Essure permanent sterilizations. In the hospital setting, he performs Robotic Hysterectomies and Laparoscopic Supra Cervical Hysterectomies.
A former Chief of Obstetrics/Gynecology at Baylor Regional Medical Center-Grapevine (BRMC), and one of the original members of Baylor Health Care System’s Physician Leadership Council, Dr. Kilianski continues to serve on the council today. He is also the OB Champion, tasked with improving safety and the quality of care delivered at BRMC.
Dr. Kilianski completed a four-month training course through the Baylor Health Care System in 2006 and is now one of a handful of “Physician Champions” who are charged with continually monitoring and developing ways to improve the quality of care delivered system-wide. Dr. Kilianski was also involved with a Nationwide Health Initiative sponsored by the National Institute for Children’s Healthcare Quality, aimed at improving health care access and outcomes for mothers and children.
Dr. Kilianski is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He completed his residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and served as a physician in the U.S. Navy for nearly a decade. Time in the Navy provided Dr. Kilianski with unique experiences that most civilian-trained physicians will never see in their career. He is a graduate of a two-year Executive Physician Leadership Training program offered through the Baylor Health Care System at the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business.
Dr. Kilianski and his wife have a son, a daughter, two pugs, and a slightly anti-social cat. In his free time, Dr. Kilianski enjoys reading, playing chess and walking his dogs. He is also a collector of coins and chess sets.
