Biography
Katie Tyson offers her expertise as a nurse midwife at Reston Women’s Center in Reston, Virginia. She worked her way through nursing school and through her nursing career, beginning her journey as a nurse with her AAS in Nursing from NVCC before obtaining a BSN from George Mason University, graduating with highest honors, and finally completing her MSN as a Certified Nurse Midwife through Frontier Nursing University, also graduating with highest honors. She practiced as a registered nurse for 9 years before becoming a midwife with experience in medical-surgical nursing, high-risk pregnancy, and labor and delivery. She completed her midwifery preceptorship as a student nurse under Traci Marin, CNM prior to joining our practice.
Katie supports women through all stages of their life, from adolescence through menopause and through pregnancy, labor/birth, and the postpartum period. She believes in serving women with open, honest communication, nonjudgmental attitude, trust, consent and a little laughter.
Katie is trained in NEXPLANON® insertion as well as all forms of IUDs. She has a special interest in contraception and for those not planning a pregnancy will be happy to discuss the various options available to you and work with you to find the right fit.
In pregnancy and birth, Katie believes that being “with-woman” includes being present and attentive to women choosing to labor unmedicated as much as those choosing epidurals. She attends births at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. She has a certification in advanced electronic fetal monitoring (C-EFM) and encourages a high-touch, low-tech approach to labor and birth.
Katie is readily available to answer your non-urgent questions throughout the week through our online Patient Portal.
