Biography

Hello!

For those of you that don’t know me, I am Dr. Catherine Olsen. When you are asked to write your own bio as a physician, it’s strange. If you keep to the normal script, it’s dry and boring. If you list all of your accomplishments, it sounds boastful. I decided to just tell you who I am as a human being.

I am a wife to my loving husband, Chad. He’s a retired firefighter and now works in the ER. I have three amazing children, Mikaiah, Kaleb, and Isabella. I have two wonderful bonus children by marriage, Jordan and Audrey and a beautiful granddaughter, Raelynn. I have four, 4 legged children, Floki, Fibi, Ozzy, and Max who make me nuts on a regular basis but also make me laugh out loud often. My family is simply amazing and I am so blessed to have all of them.

In my spare time, I am a masters swimmer and compete frequently. I love home projects, and love Estate sales.

I cannot say I always “knew I was going to be a doctor.” I actually took the long way around getting to OBGYN and medicine in general. I was a housekeeper, a bartender, and an ER/ICU nurse before I decided to go to medical school. I did several years of general surgery before I realized that wasn’t intended for me and followed my heart to OBGYN. I have never regretted any portion of that journey. It made me exactly who I am supposed to be…and I actually like her!

I have been in Rockwall since I came out of residency at the AMAZING John Peter Smith Hospital since 2011. I spent the last 8 years with a great corporate entity. However, due to unfortunate issues, that entity decided to close our branch of its OB line. That was so heartbreaking on so many levels.

Most OBGYNS are winding down at my age. I wasn’t ready to do that, so I tried the hospitalist role. It’s not bad. But, over and over, I was reminded how much I truly love my relationship with my girls. I missed that connection terribly. I prayed over the right direction to take. I tried other avenues without happiness. I sat still. One morning, I woke up and finally agreed with my very wise husband to open Genesis. I knew it was time. The name fits because it symbolizes my rebirth in the community and hopefully a new outlook on private practice. I vowed that, if I did this, I would do everything I could to make it about you, the patients. My staff and I have made our office a reflection of Genesis and our personalities. We are truly a team. Medicine is a beautiful blend of art and science. It can touch the body, mind, and spirit if allowed to do so.

I hope you will find myself and my staff as amazing as we find you. We look forward to serving you and all your obstetrical or gynecological needs.

Warmest Regards,
Dr. Olsen
